The WIAA and the Washington Army National Guard Scholastic Cup recognizes performance in the classroom as well as on the playing surface. Schools that finish at the top of their respective classifications in state athletic competition receive points, as do schools that finish at the top in team academic performance. Sportsmanship is also a factor, with substantial points deducted for ejections from contests. At the end of last year, Mead High School had the most points in the 4A classification and was awarded the prestigious Scholastic Cup!
The Panthers have earned the title of 4A Scholastic Cup Champions 6 times, which is more than any other 4A school in the state. Mead earned the title for five consecutive years, 2008 – 2012, and we have finished in the top five, 13 times. Many of our Panther teams and activities contributed to last year’s point total including state competition team by our Boys Tennis team(4th), Boys Track team(1st), Volleyball team(2nd) and Wrestling team (3rd). Mead Dance, Debate and Orchestra groups earned Team State Academic Championships while Band, Boys & Girls Track and Wrestling earned 2nd place Team Academic recognition.
