Western Washington University and The American String Teachers Association Washington State Chapter (W-ASTA) have combined to offer this HIGHLY competitive State Orchestra Festival. The top String, Chamber and Symphonic Orchestras from across the State of Washington are at this Festival being assessed by outstanding National adjudicators, with an emphasis on providing a high quality educational experience through expert comments and clinics for every ensemble.
Attending a State-level Festival gives orchestra members an opportunity to listen to outstanding symphonic and string ensembles from throughout the region, including a performance from the Western Symphony Orchestra (they performed a fascinating piece by German composer Paul Hindemith, "Matthis de Mahler" (Matthias the Painter), under the baton of Director of Orchestral Studies, Ryan Dudenbostel. All entries are designated with a Gold, Silver or Bronze Award based on their performance, and compete with the other schools in the various divisions.
The Festival adjudicators were impressed with our orchestra's precision, attention to detail, technical skills and sensitive expressive musical playing. Congratulations to our musicians and our Director, Dorothy Baldwin.
