Wrestling If there is an award for getting the most out of your opportunities, then coaches Phil McLean, Jason Tebbets and our other assistant coaches as well as the 4 wrestlers we sent to Mat Classic XXVIII this weekend would all be at the top of the podium receiving that 1st place medal! After surviving last week's 4A Regional Tournament - it's got to be the toughest regional wrestling tournament in the state - our guys all made the podium Saturday afternoon in Tacoma.
Chase Tebbets, who had been battling sickness all last week won his first two matches on Friday, won his semi-final match on Saturday and ended up placing 2nd after losing in the championship(9-5) at 106 lbs. Christian Hunter fought back from an opening round loss(3-0) to place 5th at 152 lbs. He rattled off 3 straight wins before losing 3-2 for a chance to wrestle for 3rd. He won his 5th place match 9-4. Trevor Senn's only loss was to the eventual 4-time 4A state champion in the 2nd round. He won 4 in a row to capture the 3rd place medal at 170 lbs. Malachi Thompson won twice to reach the semifinals but lost that match Saturday morning. He lost his next two matches and placed 6th in the 182 lb. class. As a team, we finished in a tie for 12th.
Gymnastics Sophomore Zella Conley placed 4th on the Vault and 7th on the Bars at this weekend's State Gymnastics Meet at the Tacoma Dome.
